Musical behavior seems to come naturally to most children and adults. But how does this musical behavior develop in the first place? I am interested in musical development: how infants become children and adults that understand and make music. My research focuses on infants’ music input from their sound environment and on infant vocalizations. For my current project, I am analyzing daylong home recordings of infants from both Tanzania and the U.S. to try to learn more about the music sounds that infants hear and the music sounds that they produce.

I am a PhD student in music education. I completed my master’s degree at The Ohio State University in 2017, with an interdisciplinary specialization in cognitive science.

I am from Brazil, and I moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2015. I am a classically trained pianist, but my heart belongs to the bateria.
